I really didn’t know what to expect with this one. I arrived friday morning with Matt Hunt. I hadn’t been to the building before, its basically a derelict warehouse. Harry the organizer told me he’s had his eye on it for a while and he noticed some squatters had moved in so he thought he’d make use of the space. One of the squatters showed me around where he’s been living and it was insane, they had wired up electricity somehow, they even had heating.
We started putting up our work, the warehouse looks like it used to be a factory for something, so its full of weird pipes and scaffolding and stuff, the work id brought down was all odd shaped, so i went for a space that had loads of scaffolding across it at different angles.
Harry helped me hang the top piece around a beam so it fit in the top section with the edges parallel to the scaffolding. People kept asking me if i’d made it that shape to fit there, but it was just one of those things. The piece on the left was hung on screws, as i was drilling i was wondering if there could be asbestos in the walls but im still alive so i guess not. The edge of the painting lined up nicely with the scaffolding. I left the one on the right just sitting on the wall, a pipe runs down over it as well, it made it a bit more sculptural. Even though none of the works new, its good to have a bit of variety in the presentation.
I met some people doing graffiti, one of them wrote my website for me, he did it so fast, so jealous of there skills, i need to get practicing with spray paint.
I found another little space to put these two.
Heres a view of the room:
